Mycilium Monarchy is a not so subtle critique of monarchical society.
The Idea came around while thinking of one of my ideas of a royal mushroom film and the anatomy of mushrooms themselves.
Mushrooms are odd creatures and what people know as the mushroom is in fact just the "Flower" or "Fruiting body" of the mushroom, while the true body would be the mycilium or "roots" of the mushroom.
The mycilium also specifically feeds off of decaying plant matter so the theme of decay is already there when it comes mushrooms. So the next step was to find similarities when it comes to the monarchy, which didn't take long. The monarchy and any royal family will present themselves as inscrutable figures that have never done wrong and will use their power to hide such things, similar to how the mushroom will only present the "fruiting-body" the monarchy presents itself with the pristine image of kings and queens.
The story of Mycilium Monarchy follows the events after the death of the previous king and crowning of the prince.
After the death of the king a feast is to be held in celebration of the the prince's inauguration and guests from all around are invited.
Things change however once a figure in the kings court gives a servant a secret book. This servant reading the book, then goes on to investigate the castle and see for themselves if what the book says is true.
They speak with and watch many of the castles occupants. They even come into close contact with someone they believe to have known and eventually find growths along the walls coming from below. they make their way down into the crypt where they see things they were not meant to see.
They manage to escape but are caught and executed for slander against the Crown.
and so the cycle continues
